LET'S GO BIM!

How to get started.

It starts with a change in mindset.

In order to use BIM properly, we must make sure we have an objective or a purpose in mind. Once a goal for BIM is established, another important aspect of successfully execute BIM is the change in mindset.

We have to keep these things in mind:

  • Business is no longer "as usual".

  • We have to establish new teams.

  • We have to create new protocols.

  • We have to change the way we do things.

With those items in mind, we can now open to the idea of adopting BIM into our project or practice.

Essentially BIM has three important criteria in order to succeed:

  1. Plan, plan, plan - BIM Execution Plan.

  2. Contents - Data and information and object libraries.

  3. People - BIM-enabled personnel.

The three key criteria:

This is a must for all BIM projects. Everything starts with the BEP. It is crucial that the BEP determines and outlines the purpose and objective of using BIM. The BEP will also contain the important people and their roles and responsibilities for the project. Lastly, besides the scope of the BIM work, the BEP should contain a matrix of modeling elements specifying the level of development (LOD) requirements for each of the modeling phases for the project.

BIM is not effective or complete without proper data and information. The "I" in BIM stands for information and this is perhaps the only thing that matters the most when it comes to using BIM. In order to do BIM properly, there has to be a data-filled set of templates, components, and content libraries. Without these accurate and useful components filled with proper data and parameters that align with the goals of the project, the BIM process or model is essentially useless.

Without the right people performing the right tasks or having the ability to execute the process, BIM will fail. It is crucial to have the right people, with the right knowledge and experience in order to make BIM effective. The majority of the BIM projects that fail, it is usually the cause of an inexperienced manager or personnel lacking the understanding and procedures to execute BIM properly. That is why training and education for BIM personnel is very important.

Let us help you to get started with BIM. Often, it doesn't take much for you or your company to become BIM-enabled right away. For a typical company of 10 personnel or less, it takes about one month to become fully BIM-enabled.

  1. Create a BIM purpose for your team or company.

  2. Create BIM contents, templates, and libraries.

  3. Train your team - with an actual pilot project.

We have done it for years and because we have tried and failed many times before, we can save you a ton of time and effort by doing it right the first time now.

BIM starts at the end.

Let's get started with the right mindset, not toolset (like Revit).
